About the French cello

It is an unlabeled trade instrument, probably made in Mirecourt at the end of the 19th century. Mirecourt was the center of French bowed string insturments making starting from the 16th century. Many instruments were made in this small French village. Mirecourt has produced some of the greatest makers in history. Its success was based on a guild system, which ensured quality, training standards, and the seamless transmission of knowledge across generations. Influential Mirecourt makers include Vuillaume, Collin-Mezin, Bazin, and Chanot.

The picture is not an original picture of this musical instrument. We did not take a picture of each instrument that we capture.
